Current Projects
The Greater Norristown Corporation doesn't just bring influential members of the community together to share information, but also supports other organizations and participates in other community projects that could ultimately influence Norristown. Below are a few of the projects that we are currently involved with.
Norristown Arts Festival
Norristown Arts Hill is an organization that is working towards the establishment of an arts district in downtown Norristown. With Centre Theater, Theatre Horizon, and other businesses involved in the arts already in their "district," they are working towards attracting additional similar businesses to vacant building in the area to help develop an identity for the area and draw attention to Norristown.
To kick off their annual Norristown Arts Festival, Greater Norristown Corporation is sponsoring the Reception on The Hill on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 5:30pm. This event attracts local business people and government staff and provides an enjoyable evening and networking opportunity.

Lafayette Street Corridor Project
Construction is set to begin next year on a project that will widen and redevelop Lafayette Street, as well as extend it to intersect with Conshohocken State Rd. Originally, the third aspect of this project was to connect an innerchange to the PA Turnpike which would make Norristown easily accesible and provide the Municipality with an economic boost. However, the Turnpike Commission has backed out and are no longer planning to fund the project.
GNC is helping to find additional ways to bring this innerchange to Norristown.
Hospital Relocation Committee
In September 2012, Montgomery Hospital will be permanently closed and replaced by Einstein Hospital on Germantown Pike in East Norriston. As part of the acquisition of Montgomery Hospital, Einstein is responsible for managing the reuse of the site, as this could be a valuable and useful property.
GNC has taken an active role on the committee that has been formed to determined how the property should be used. We are pushing for a use that would contribute to the Norristown tax base.
